How to get the most out of the new Squiz CMS Easy Edit Suite (EES)

Module Overview

Until recently, there were only two ways to edit content in Matrix: the full administration mode, or by developing an entirely customised Simple Edit interface. Available from version 3.28.0, the Easy Edit Suite (EES) is a newly developed modern editing interface which allows users with little Matrix experience to update the content of a site in an easy, intuitive fashion. This session will introduce you to the basic and advanced features of the EES.

Scott Hall is an Implementation Specialist with Squiz Australia. With over 7 years of web experience (3 years with Australian Government) Scott has an extensive knowledge of front end web development techniques including standards driven XHTML, CSS and dynamic scripting.

Anthony Barnes is a Senior Implementation Specialist with over 5 years MySource Matrix experience. He specialises in scripting languages using Matrix functionality to achieve complex implementations, automated content migration and integration with external applications.

Module Overview

Gartner has stated that “by 2013, mobile phones will overtake PCs as the most common web access device worldwide”. With the proliferation of mobile web devices and an increasing demand from users to be connected to the internet from any location, how well is your site prepared? This session will discuss the challenges around delivering mobile friendly content, and how you can use Matrix to strengthen your mobile web presence and achieve W3C compliance.

  • Why have a mobile design? (discuss popularity of mobile devices, potential audience etc).
  • Demonstrate the squiz mobile design.
  • Discuss design elements. KISS, vertical nav, bandwidth friendly, IA change.
  • Discuss how the design and site are implemented in Matrix (shared content, different structure).
  • Discuss (briefly) the rules added to squid or apache to detect user agents for automatic switch.
  • Discuss future of W3C standards (tools to test, why some methods don’t work yet or may never work and the W3C’s goals for implementing mobile sites).

is the Squiz Regional Manager for Tasmania and South Australia. Prior to joining Squiz Karl worked in both State and Local Government implementing online information management resources at a technical and management level.

Implementation of information management resources inevitably leads to questions and challenges associated with discovering information quickly and intuitively. Karl has worked on implementation of information discovery strategies and technologies associated with large information collections including Lucene, Microsoft Index Server, Google Mini, Squiz Search and most recently Funnelback.

Speaker Bio

Micky Gough - Micky has been a part of the Squiz Support team for three years. Prior to that, he has worked as an IT service desk coordinator, systems administrator, web application developer, TAFE teacher and church minister. Micky's focus is primarily in the Systems Administration support area, but he also actively troubleshoots Matrix implementation issues and comes up with occasional bugfixes.

Casey Farrell - Casey is a Senior Implementation Specialist and Technical Trainer at the Hobart Squiz office and has worked on many high profile projects, including starring as lead implementer for the Discover Tasmania website and lead implementer and user experience designer for the University of Tasmania Control Panel editing interface. Casey has also authored Squiz's MySource Matrix Calendar course and co-authored the Web Statistics and Analytics course.
